Chiropractic Biophysics is currently the most researched technique in chiropractic. Developed and carried on by Dr.'s Don and Deed Harrison, the techniques were researched and validated by a team of doctors and scientists comprised of mathematicians, engineers, statisticians, chiropractors and medical doctors. CBP is proven effective in 7 text books and over 120 articles in prestigious medical, orthopedic and chiropractic journals around the world. The research continues in collaboration with some of the finest spine researchers today.
The primary
goal of CBP technique is to correct abnormal spine structure and posture positions to provide long term improvements in pain and function.
THE CHIROPRACTIC BIOPHYSICS DIFFERENCE
Choosing a proper rehabilitation program is extremely important. CBP programs are backed by scientific validated research and constantly improving based on new research. This research adds to the reliability, repeatability and effectiveness
of the treatment results.
What makes it unique is that it involves structural and posture rehabilitation that corrects abnormal spine structure. In fact, in clinical controlled trials, extension traction, as done in CBP Technique, is the only proven method (without surgery) shown to consistently correct abnormal spinal curvatures back towards their normal alignment.
CBP
is different than traditional adjustment and physical therapy techniques due to its specific treatment approach utilizing mirror image exercises, mirror image adjustments and corrective traction to restore abnormal structural positions. This approach provides more long term relief by addressing the case of the problem.
Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment of the patient's history, exam findings, postural analysis and x-rays. The doctor will study all areas of your spinal column and compare your alignment to normal values. Detailed measurements will be made to determine if you have improper posture and spinal alignment. These measurements allow the doctor to prescribe an individualized corrective treatment plan as well as determine how much correction is required to restore your health. In addition, this provides
reliable, repeatable measurements to assess patient improvement.
We utilize corrective CBP traction
protocols to stretch and mold
muscles
and ligaments supporting
your new
posture and spinal
structure. This provides long
term relief for
spinal conditions.
EXERCISES:
We prescribe individualized
corrective exercise programs
designed to gradually strengthen
your muscles and help
correct spinal and
postural conditions.
MIRROR IMAGE ADJUSTMENT:
We provide traditional adjustments
to initiate healing, manage pain and
increase range of motion. In
addition, our doctors utilize specific
mirror image postural adjustments to
stimulate spinal and postural
correction.
POSTURE AND HEALTH
Why is it so important to restore normal posture for health?
Posture is a window to our spine and abnormal posture indicates spinal abnormalities that can be affecting our overall health. When posture is abnormal, balance is upset and excess pressure and strain can be placed on different areas of the body. This excess pressure and strain has scientifically been proven to cause detrimental health effects on several functions on the body.
Your posture affects just about every function that your body performs. In fact, medical studies have proven that a person's posture is often the cause of spinal pain, headaches, mood swings, numbness and/or tingling sensations, severe back and neck pain and even chronic fatigue. Postural distortions have even been linked to local organ ailments such as uterine prolapse, gastric herniation, respiratory function and even morbidity and mortality.
"Posture affects and moderates every physiological function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse and lung capacity are among the most easily influenced by posture."
What is normal?
Just like you have normal values for things such as temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, etc., there is also a normal standing posture and spine position your spine should have. The normal posture is where your head, thorax (rib cage), pelvis, and feet are centered upon each other both from a front view and side (lateral) view. As your posture is a window to your spine, your spine should also be balanced with normal limits. The spine should be straight from the front with the neck, mid back, low back and pelvis aligned over each other. From the side the spine should have alternating curves within normal researched values to maintain pain-free motion and function. These curves have specific normal angles that can be measured on x-rays.
How do I correct abnormal posture? For decades, health practitioners have attempted to restore better posture in order to restore normal health. Although these practitioners, from physical therapists, osteopathic physicians, medical doctors and chiropractic physicians, understand this importance, they have failed in being able to actually correct abnormal postures. This has been due to the thought that muscles alone were responsible for maintaining and correcting posture. Chiropractic Biophysics addresses correction of the spine and structures surrounding it including ligaments and muscles, in order to remold and improve the posture and structure.
